Faith Episcopal church was formed by a group of Episcopalians looking for a church to call home. For many years the group met in private homes, then a fire station, and, eventually, we settled in the VFW Hall in Kingston. This building is not particularly attractive on the outside, but its interior has been transformed into a space which is half children's learning space which they share with us for coffee hour, and half is a dedicated sanctuary. In 2009, a parish family purchased and donated the chairs and altar rails from St. Francis in Mill Creek. Our worship space now feels quite settled.
The sound of music and of children's happy voices permeates a typical Sunday service. A children's percussion accompaniment to our recessional hymn is not an unusual occurrence.
The Rev. Carol Ludden was the congregation's first priest, and she was succeeded, most recently, by The Rev. Joyce McConnell who served with us for an active four-year period. Joyce's kind and loving and substantial presence is still a part of the congregation's essence, although she cannot be with us on a regular basis. The current Vicar, Ray Sheldon, originally served for three years as Faith's Deacon-In-Charge. He was ordained to the priesthood, and became Vicar, in July 2009.
Calendar year 2009 was a year of change at Faith Church. The most significant of these was the addition of two additional, paid positions. Knowing that our youth is our backbone, and our music can change a service to a celebration, we hired a Youth Director, Amanda Aurand, and a Music Director, Ellen Green. These two wonderful, committed people have helped us to take big steps in providing an environment which is welcoming and joy-filled.
Proud of our history as a fun-loving, warm and a not -particularly-conformist mission, the members of Faith continue a tradition of creativity and flexibility, as we focus on our children, our music, our liturgy ( we are, of course, Episcopalian) and on supporting our own and the greater community. We invite you to come experience our warm welcome and to join us in joyful worship anytime!
